Academy Honoree/Trustee Presents Three Academy-Linked Awards at Azusa Pacific

The United States Sports Academy Directors’ Cup is usually presented to the athletic program that leads its class in overall athletic performance, based on national placing. However, no official distinction has been given for the athletic program that puts together the most Academy honorees at one time.

The Shanghai Sports Council will send 20 students to a seminar on sports management and coaching at the United States Sports Academy from 1 December to 5 December.

United States Sports Academy Trustee Dr. Gary Cunningham will present Azusa Pacific University (APU) with the Academy Directors' Cup award for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) division Saturday, 15 November at a banquet to honor 2008 Olympic Decathlon champion and APU alumnus Bryan Clay.

The United States Sports Academy's 2002 Sport Artist of the Year, painter Mina Papatheodorou-Valyraki, was awarded the "Guirlande d'Honneur" at the 26th Milano International FICTS Festival in Italy. FICTS stands for "Federation International Cinéma Television Sportifs." The federation honored Papatheodorou-Valyraki during the festival's opening ceremony at Palazzo Marini in Milan, Italy.

Wyland Environmental Mural

A mural seven blocks long is to paintings what the National Mall is to backyards. So there was a certain symmetry to the recent Mall display of "Hands Across the Ocean," the 100th and final installment in the Whaling Wall international series of monumental works by Wyland, the United States Sports Academy's Environmental Artist of the Year 2008.
