United States Sports Academy Teaching Positions

Chair of Sports Management

The United States Sports Academy is seeking a Chair of Sports Management who will be responsible for providing general oversight of what is acclaimed to be the largest such program in the country. The successful candidate will have both teaching and administrative responsibilities at the doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degree levels in both a residential and on-line, distance-learning environment.

Qualifications: Earned Terminal Degree in sports management or a related discipline is required along with 5-7 years of teaching experience and evidence of scholarly productivity. The successful candidate will possess a background in sports administration, business, sport marketing or a related area. Prior experience with distance learning and online delivery systems is preferred. Excellent computer literacy, verbal and written communications skills are required. Knowledge of and interest in sport is essential. Immediate vacancy and search will continue until the position is filled.

Chair of Sport Exercise Science

The Departmental Chair will provide instruction in both residential and online settings, undertake administrative activities in the Division of Academic Affairs; provide academic, portfolio and mentorship advising to students and assist with curricular development and course writing for the discipline. The Faculty member will also supervise the activities in the Human Performance Center, fitness facilities and Sports Medicine Lab. Faculty member will seek out grant opportunities and undertake such research and writing as needed for professional development and particulate in service activities as requested.

Qualifications: An earned doctorate in Exercise Science (or a related discipline) with at least five years teaching and supervisory academic experience in higher education and evidence of scholarly production are required. Experience in administering academic programs in a non-traditional setting and via asynchronous, on-line delivery is required and must possess demonstrable and developed computer skills.

International Teaching Assignments

The United States Sports Academy is seeking physical educators and sports instructors who are interested in teaching abroad in a new pilot program to retrain 1,000 of Malaysia’s physical education teachers.

The Malaysia Ministry of Education (MOE) just approved two week and six month assignments that will mobilize on June 1st. The courses will be taught in six different locations throughout the country, which is considered one of the most beautiful in Southeast Asia.

Instructors selected to teach in the program can expect reasonable compensation in addition to round-trip airfare, housing, food and transportation while on assignment. Breaks in the teaching calendar will also afford the instructors the opportunity to experience the local culture and attractions.

In addition to these intermediate term positions, the Academy is seeking instructors for future two-week assignments in Malaysia in both physical education and sports. Anyone who is interested in these opportunities should have a graduate degree in a relevant field.

KGA-PGA Internship

This position is available for an individual interested in furthering their experience and expertise in the fields of tournament and handicap administration, providing office support for the allied golf associations of the Kentucky Golf Association and the Kentucky Section PGA, and experiencing a working relationship with the USGA.

Candidates should be a candidate for graduation from a college or university in the fields of management, sports marketing, business or a golf related program.

The intern will be directly under the supervision of the Director, Tournament Operations and will assist all staff members as directed. The primary responsibilities are detailed in the following sub-sections:

Tournament Administration

  • Registration of players through multiple entry processes.
  • Verification of USGA Handicap Service.
  • Tournament preparation of player’s groupings, time of starting, and group flighting.
  • Prepare host facility for competition; i.e. marking, staking, tee and hole placement, starting and scoring tent location, banner positioning and miscellaneous signage location.
  • Assist with on-site tournament activities such as registration, cart staging, additional contests, and assisting tournament sponsors.
  • Tournament assignments such as starter, scorer, observer, and assisting rules officials.
  • Post tournament reporting to media sources.
  • Assist Director with tournament supplies inventory.

Handicap Administration

  • Verify all entries for USGA Handicap records for accuracy and status.
  • Update competitor’s handicap records for each tournament.

Computer and IT Skills

  • Proficient in the use of general office equipment.
  • Proficient with MS Office programs, including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Publisher.
  • Candidate should have a proficient skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Candidate should have a working understanding of social networking (Facebook), website applications and mass communication skills.

Compensation

  • $1,700 per month (5 months): May 14 – October 12, 2012
  • 40+ Hour work week, includes weekends

Below I have outlined the simple conditions under which the internships operate:

  • Interns do not receive wages for work completed.

U.S. Olympic Committee Internship Program

Thank you for your interest in the United States Olympic Committee Internship Program!

The United States Olympic Committee conducts an internship program for college students, following the traditional college semester schedule – fall, winter/spring and summer. The internship sites are Colorado Springs, CO, Lake Placid, NY, and Chula Vista, CA; the Washington, DC office also offers a single internship opportunity. Positions are either with the USOC or its sport National Governing Bodies (i.e. Swimming, Triathlon, Volleyball, etc.).

Interns live at Olympic Training Centers, eat their meals at the Athletes’ Dining Hall, and gain on-the-job experience and training. A small stipend is also provided.

The program offers internships in the areas of: broadcasting, Paralympics, journalism, marketing, sports medicine, sports administration, human resources, development, strength and conditioning, and more.

To be eligible for the internship program, students must have completed at least two years of college before the start of the internship and be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited United States college or university. Internships are competitive.

To meet the goal, United Way Worldwide is inviting key partners like National Football League players to join us in the effort to recruit one million volunteer readers, tutors and mentors by 2014.

One college-educated, civic-minded player will be recruited from each of the 32 NFL teams — each one committing to recruit 1,000 “hand-raisers” per year for the next three years.
