Who is the Academy accredited by?
The United States Sports Academy is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call (404) 679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of the United States Sports Academy.
How do I obtain a catalog?
Catalogs are available to you online on the Catalogs Page.
What time of the year should I apply?
We have rolling admission, which means that prospective students may apply at any time of the year.
Is there an application deadline?
No. Once all required documents are received, your file will be reviewed for admission to the program.
Is it too late to apply for admission for this semester?
No, the Academy is not on a semester calendar, so you may apply for admission at anytime.
Is my admissions application charged immediately when submitted online?
No, usually this process takes approximately between 3-5 days after submitting the application.
What if my transcripts show credits I transferred from other schools? Do I still need to submit each individual transcript?
Yes, you MUST submit official transcripts from each school individually. We will not be able to complete an evaluation or admissions file with unofficial transcripts.
Once I’m accepted, when can I register?
We have rolling enrollment which means that as soon as you are accepted, you can start your courses. You do not have to wait for “the next semester to begin.”
When will I know if I have been accepted?
You will receive an acceptance letter by mail and also a call from your admissions counselor.
How long does it take to receive a decision about acceptance?
Normally, it takes within 14 days once all admission documents are submitted.
Do I have to be online at the same time as my professor or classmates?
No, our courses are asynchronous, which means that students do not have to be online at the same time as their professors or classmates. This makes the Academy’s program very convenient for students.
Are the courses structured so that assignments are to be finished by certain dates?
No, courses are self-paced and are divided into 10 units. Each unit contains either an assignment or discussion question and an open book quiz. Once all ten unit quizzes are completed, students may register for their final proctored exams. Also, students may finish their courses prior to their course completion dates.
Can the entire program be done online?
Yes, all course work can be done online.
What are the computer requirements for the online program?
Please review the Technical Requirements and Browser Test Page carefully; computer hardware, software, and an Internet connection are the primary means of participating in courses and thus are significant contributors to academic success.
How do I interact with my instructor and other students?
One of the greatest strengths of the Academy is its online setting. It gives students the opportunity to discuss issues and gain ideas from their instructors and other learners through online discussions, email, and messaging capabilities. Contact information for your professors is available at Faculty.
What kind of experience can I expect from an online course?
The Academy offers a highly individualized and interactive learning environment. In fact, a great majority of our students say that they have learned more in our distance learning courses than they have sitting in a classroom. There are no “live” lectures but everyone participates in an online class. You will interact with faculty through the online discussion boards, and can contact your instructor via e-mail or phone during the course if needed. Written feedback on assignments is another way that faculty members interact with learners.
Do classes have specific start and end dates?
Each course has a designated start date and end date that is specific to you that is assigned by the Registrar’s Office once your registration has been fully processed. You will be given 16 weeks (the first week is for shipping your course materials to you) to complete each course regardless of when in the term you register. Course completion dates are found in your My Student Portal.
What if I need extra time to complete my course?
Distance-learning students are able to purchase up to 60 additional days to complete each course if needed. Extension requests must be received before a student’s end date.
